Let’s talk Bullet Journal.
Specifically, how you can create a bullet journal that is incredibly inspiring, outrageously effective, created exclusively for you, by you.
Your Bullet Journal. Your Journey
Create Your World
BeeโnYOUnique is all about our individual YOUniqueness. It was created exclusively to share ideas, strategies, practices, exercises and experiences that help us connect with our YOUnique selves on our grand journey of self discovery.
Practicing the uncomfortable and going places you never thought you would go are essential to discovering your full self.
Creating a Bullet Journal is one strategy that may work for you.
Perhaps you have tried Bullet Journaling in the past and it didn’t work. Ok, no worries. Maybe the time wasn’t right. Try a new angle. If it still doesn’t work, so be it! Move on to another self discovery strategy that works better for you.
It could be that you have never thought about Bullet Journaling. This is where I was…. or so I thought.
Once I began exploring what Bullet Journaling was, I realized I DID Bullet Journal; I just didn’t know it.
Bullet Journal Key Strategy
Make it your own. Literally, create your world.
As you embark on your journal creation, you will come across a boatload of page ideas. I totally recommend you check them out. Just don’t make a complete duplicate of someone else’s ideas. Make it your own.
Use the Bullet Journal ideas as prompters. General starting points. Use them to get the gist of things.
Here are some examples:
Book Time!
I LOVE to read. You will find lists of books all over my desk, in all my notebooks, and in my phone. When it comes time to select my next read, I’m forever fumbling around for one of those lists. Until now!
I created a ‘Rainey Day Reads’ journal page; complete with book titles and authors. As I finish reading a book, I write it down on my list of books. Then I find it on the bookshelf and color it in. I find this to be incredibly satisfying.
The format of my page is not radically new, there are many book journal pages just like this one. But the books are YOUnique to me. What you see on the shelves, like the candle and starfish, are exactly what I have on my shelves in my living room. And I am ‘Rainey Day’. So it’s a bit fun, I think.
Game Time!
In my research about Bullet Journals, I found a bunch that were games, and I think they are super fun. Self Care Bingo caught my liking. Once again, the page idea may not be radically new, but everything in my bingo boxes was mindfully put there. I took time to think about what I need. I didn’t look at what other people put in the boxes on their journal pages.
There was also time taken to think about the timeline. The bingo card has 25 boxes (one free that I kept). I figured 30 days was putting on some pressure, so I chose 60 days to complete the full card.
I actually can’t believe how much this page is inspiring me! It’s a little bit funny how I wake up and immediately think about what box I can fill that day. And I’ve somehow decided it’s critical that I use a different color to fill in each box upon completion. Good stuff. I love it!
The obsession continues… I even created a page for a ‘to-do’ list for Bee, to get her ready for the season.
One Page At A Time
Before putting pen to paper:
- Close your eyes.
- Take a deep breath.
- Now take another deep breath.
- Clear your mind and think about what you wish to see in your world. Where do you want to go, what do you want to do. What do you need from a ‘self’ perspective? Do you need more self care, affirmations, self love? Are your goals scattered, do you need to unclutter your thoughts, organize a to-do list, make sense of the junk in your closet? Think long and hard about what you need most in this very moment.
- Lock in on just one thing.
- How might you put that on paper? Don’t over think it. Just push it around in your head for a moment.
- Open your eyes, grab a pen, and let those thoughts run! Create them on paper in whatever way comes freely from you.
- Take the time. One page at a time.
Bullet Journal Supplies
You don’t need much to get started.
A bullet journal, of course. You can find some really inexpensive options; see below for some ideas. I do like ones that come with a straight edge ruler, which is super helpful in creating neat pages. Also, one that either opens flat or has a spiral edge; just for ease of creating.
There are many color pens on the market. You want to look for ones that don’t bleed through the pages. I’ve used the ones below for my pages. For the most part they are good; but I have learned to go lightly with them to avoid the bleed through.

Your Bullet Journal. Your Journey.
To summarize, just make it about you. If you’re going to take the time to create a page, make it something that will work for you. Make it inspiring for you.
