YOUnique journal inspiration comes from within.
A friend asked me how to journal, and I thought to myself, there is no exact answer to that question. There is not 1 way to journal. Journaling is a personal, YOUnique experience.
Each of us is inspired in our own way. Our inspiration is not found in selected journal prompts or specific journal techniques. Sure, they can help, but the true journal inspiration you are looking for comes from within you.
If you allow it, your journaling style will materialize before you and it will be a magnificent experience. It is a major pathway on your journey of self-discovery.
Inspire yourself. Allow yourself to find yourself. No boundaries. No rules, processes or structures. Just you with some type of writing, drawing, coloring or pasting apparatus in your hand and a journal before you. Taking what’s in your mind down your arm, through your hands, to lay upon your journal before you. A free flow that is completely YOUnique.
Be Your Own Journaling Inspiration
Your Journaling Style is YOUnique
Most people think about writing when they think about journaling, but that is not the only way to journal. Examples of other journaling styles include drawing, coloring, pasting pictures and photos, to name a few. There is no right or wrong way to journal. There is only your way to journal.
Sit back and take a minute to think about what a journal would look like to you. Whatever your answer is, start there. Don’t over think it, just take some action and start doing it. Follow your intuition and see where it leads you.
Allow your style to materialize.
Journal when you feel inspired to journal
There is no predetermined time-line for journaling that will deem you a ‘success’. In fact, there is no way to succeed or fail at journaling.
Setting expectations can make you feel like you are failing if you don’t meet them. Consider not setting parameters that you must journal daily, twice a day, weekly, etc. Instead, set an intention to journal. Remain aware of your intention and keep your journal in an easy to reach location. This way, when the moment strikes you, you are ready to let it flow!
Journals, Journals and more Journals!
You can have as many journals as you want! Make it a hodge-podge collection, all in one, or allow yourself to have multiple journals. There is no reason to feel bound to one journal or one style. Do what you feel inspired to do.
As I made my way through my own world of journaling, poems started to take a theme. I wanted a journal that allowed me to capture my poems in a YOUnique and special way, so I started a poem journal! It’s leather bound, recycled paper with no lines and smaller than my other journals.
Soon I found I was sketching in my journals and thought, hey, I need another journal! I use my sketch journal when I don’t have the words, but I have the images in my head that need a release. It’s a 5×7 hard cover journal. The label says it’s a sketch pad. I say it’s my sketch journal.
Don’t limit yourself! Your journey of self-discovery is all your own. Let your YOUnique creativity release your own journaling inspiration!
Loosy Goosy ~ Free Form ~ Journal Inspiration
Take structure and throw it out the window. Free form your way through.
There is always a starting point. You don’t necessarily need prompts to begin your journal. Just put your pen on the paper and write. Even if you write ‘I don’t know what to write. This feels silly, because these are just silly words’, write them anyway. Keep writing whatever nonsense is coming to mind. You will be surprised at what starts to take shape.
If you start feeling things emerging such as fear, anxiety, sadness, keep going! You are experiencing something incredibly important on your journey of self-discovery. Keep going, keep writing, get it all down. Don’t worry if it doesn’t make sense. There is no order. Besides, you don’t want order or structure. The purge is amazing and a magical space to be in.
Quiet the inner voice that tells you not to write something out. That voice is willing you to keep it in, but it needs to get out. It no longer serves you.
Don’t stop your pen, let it roar, let it go, furiously release away my friend!
Finding Journal Inspiration When the Mind Blocks
I think about how often people say it’s hard to clear their mind for meditation. If it’s so hard to clear the mind for meditation, why then is it ever hard to clear the mind for journaling? I am not sure, but it happens.
So what do you do, when the mind blocks your journal inspiration?
Try some meditation! As you try to clear your mind, grab your journal and write about what you are not able to clear away. Guided Journaling Meditation: Intention Setting by Danielle Langin
Be your own Journal Inspiration prompts!
There are so many journal prompts to be found that have been created for you. Why not create your own?
Keep it simple. Ask yourself things like: What makes me happy? What makes me sad? Why do I feel angry? In how many ways am I special? What is blocking my journey of self-discovery and how can I begin to move beyond the blockage?
Grab a magazine and start cutting pictures that call to you. Paste them into your journal and write about why they call to you. You will be amazed at what an image can trigger.
Go for a nature walking meditation.
Free Yourself
Remind yourself that journaling is a release for you. It is a tool used to express yourself, in whatever form that takes for you.
If you have experienced trauma, grief, suffer from depression or have other negative or harmful thoughts, journaling can be the most positive outlet for you. It can be a fascinating experience as you move through your negative and unwanted feelings, emotions and repressed memories into an open, positive mind set.
Journaling About Trauma and Stress Can Heal Your Body | Psychology Today
Many times, I’ve thought what is on the paper could hurt someone’s feelings if they ever saw it, and that made me stop and reconsider. There are no rules saying you have to keep what you write. You can burn it or shred it after you purge. Keep in mind, looking back on journal entries can be very helpful in revealing inner struggles and patterns. Think before you destroy anything.
Journaling allows you to release, examine and move forward on your journey of self-discovery. What better journal inspiration can there be?
